AQUALYX  (Fat Dissolved Solution)

Origin: Italy

Manufacturer:  Marllor Biomedical

Packaging: 10 vials x 8ml

Aqualyx is an injectable solution which is capable of dissolving stubborn areas of subcutaneous fat resistant to diet and exercise. It contains a substance called desoxychol-acid which is found in bile salts in the human body, where it is responsible for digestion of fat.

It was developed by Professor Pasquale Motolese, president of the Italian Society of Aesthetics and Medicine and first introduced in 2009. It is sometimes referred to as ‘Motolese`s Solution’.

AQUALYX is manufactured by the Italian firm Marllor and was first launched in the UK in 2013 with FDA approved.

AQUALYX was developed to treat localised pockets of fat underneath the surface of the skin.

It can be used to treat fat pockets on the back, chin, stomach, underneath the buttocks, hips, thighs and knees. It can also be used to treat pseudo-gynaecomastia, the development of fatty tissue around the nipple, resulting in a “breast”-like appearance in men, (due to weight gain rather than the growth of actual breast tissue as seen in genuine male gynaecomastia).

Clinical data shows that the application of AQUALYX is effective and safe, leading to an increasingly contoured appearance.

Once injected, Aqualyx liquefies the fat cells it comes into contact with, destroying them ‘permanently, releasing the lipids that are then eliminated naturally through the lymphatic system’. This process happens over a few weeks, and so results may not be immediately visible.

The treatment is intended to smooth sections of the body by breaking down some of the fat beneath the surface of the skin.

As its intended use is primarily body contouring, rather than weight loss, it is not marketed expressly as a weight loss aid.

  • Polymer from 3, 6-Anhydro-L-Galactose and D-Galactose (0.5%),
  • buffer systems (4.2%),
  • sodium salt of (3α, 5α, 12α) – 3,
  • 12-dihydroxy-5-cholan-24-acid (7.5%),
  • water for injection purposes (87%)
  • sodium chloride (0.8%)

The buffer system within AQUALYX ensures that the 12alfa-dihydroxy-5beta-24oico cholanic acid sodium salt is delivered to the target area.

Aqualyx is recommended for:

  • Removing stubborn fat when exercise and diet cannot
  • Eliminating cellulite and fatty deposits
  • Treat pseudo-gynocomastia in men
  • For those people who are regular gym goers but cannot shed the last bit of fat to define a six pack, Aqualyx can be used very successfully to give that definition.
  • For people with lipomas, Aqualyx can be injected into these.
  • For people with a buffalo hump, Aqualyx can be used to reduce the size of this.
  • People with uneven lumps of fat after other treatments such as Vaser or liposuction can have smoothness restored with Aqualyx.
  • Suitable for all the following parts of the body (except eyes):
    • Thighs
    • Knees
    • Buttocks
    • Hips
    • Back
    • Stomach
    • Chin
    • Saddlebags

No you will not see any difference on the scales after Aqualyx treatment. Subcutaneous fat accounts for a small proportion of our overall body fat, and dissolving this in one area will not produce a change in your weight.

AQUALYX can be used to treat stubborn fat pockets in a number of areas, including the hips, thighs and knees, the area underneath the buttocks, the stomach and back and the chin and the area underneath the chin. It is used to treat pockets of fat that are difficult to remove through diet and exercise alone.

You will start to notice an improvement anywhere between 3 and 6 weeks, and could notice ongoing improvements upto 6 months.

The fat cells that have been destroyed by Aqualyx are permanently eliminated from the body. If you gain weight in the future you may put it on in a different distribution to where you would have done prior to Aqualyx treatment.

  • Aqualyx should not be administered to pregnant women, or to breast-feeding mothers.
  • Diabetic patients should avoid treatment with Aqualyx, as the potential complications of diabetes can complicate treatment.
  • Patients with autoimmune conditions such as scleroderma should avoid treatment.
  • Patients with severe liver disease should not be treated with Aqualyx, as the extra fat it has to process could overwork the liver.
  • Any patient with a history of an allergic reaction to an ingredient of Aqualyx should avoid treatment.
  • Patients with acute or chronic skin diseases in the affected area, or with infection in the skin overlying the treatment area are not suitable for treatment.
  • Patients on blood thinning medication, in particularly warfarin, will almost certainly not be suitable for treatment due to the risk of severe bruising.
  • Patients with severe kidney disease are not suitable for treatment.

Side effects & risks:

People treated with AQUALYX will typically experience minimal side effects when compared to more invasive procedures, such as liposuction.

Side effects include some redness, swelling and tenderness in the treated area.

Some people may experience some light bruising, but this and any other side effects will usually resolve within a few days. You may need to take over the counter painkillers to control any pain-related side effects.

The manufacturers report that to date no major side effects of AQUALYX use have been reported to them.
